In response, the Hamas media office condemned the attack, labeling it a "horrific massacre" and rejecting the claim that the school housed a Hamas command post. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with ambulances transporting the injured and deceased to nearby medical facilities. Social media footage depicted the aftermath, showing destroyed classrooms and bodies prepared for burial.
A woman injured in the strike voiced her anguish, highlighting the repeated displacements and loss of lives among civilians. Ismail al-Thawabta, a Hamas media official, criticized Israel's justification of the attack, calling the allegations against the school baseless.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) asserted that the strike targeted Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants involved in the deadly events of October 7. The IDF emphasized efforts to minimize civilian casualties during the operation.
Additionally, the Israeli military has announced a new operation in central Gaza, taking control of areas in the Bureij refugee camp and the town of Deir al-Balah. The region has experienced intense bombardment, and the medical charity MĆ©decins Sans FrontiĆØres (MSF) reported a high number of casualties, predominantly women and children.
